Well, if "American" cars truly were American built a lot of people might consider it, however truth is that a lot of what is called American is assembled in Mexico and Canada, oddly enough there are many so called "Japanese" cars assembled in the USA.
Not to mention that 40 years ago American autos were the best in the world and there currently is no excuse for the shoddy quality that gets the legendary name tags.
If the Japanese can do it we should be able to.

The factory assembly line is not as big of an issue as the design and engineering that happens well before the car is built. The Japanese always adapt and innovate, while keeping quality of the build very high. They take ideas from European styling, American muscle, and blend their own from those concepts. It is sad to say that most American designers and engineers have not been able to do the same. American car manufacturers should learn from the precision and quality of Japanese builds - and I agree, we should be able to do so.
