Tank on Empty

Sediment in Gas Tank

Besides burning out the fuel pump, I have heard that it isn't good to let your fuel run low because of the sediment that builds up in the gas tank can be sucked up and will clog your fuel filter and then eventually your fuel injectors. Any mechanics out there who can confirm this?

Don't need to be a mechanic. Your gas breaks down as it sits, even if it's moved around. Over time, that breaking down leads to a thick sludge in the bottom and walls of your tank. Gasoline is, usually, almost clear or slightly yellow and pretty much the viscosity of water. Over time, it'll turn dark brown and break down to the viscosity of motor oil, or even thicker.

Whether the fuel tank is completely full, or nearly empty, the fuel pickup tube is in the same position at the lowest point. It should make no difference in sucking sediments.
