2.9 Gallons.
According to the owners manual of my 2000 Jetta 1.9 Turbo I have about 2.9 gallons of gas left in my tank when the gas light comes on.
Today I tested this theory. (I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO OTHER DRIVERS)
My fiance's car broke down today and he asked me to come rescue him. Being the awesome fiancee I am I immediately headed out to save him from the sweltering summer-in-Cincinnati heat. As I was pulling out of our driveway my gas light came on, I had no money to stop for gas, and after doing quick math in my head I decided it would be safe to just head out to get him. I drove 21 miles to retrieve him from where his car came to it's final rest (hopefully not FINAL, but for the day at least) with no complaints from my wonderfully crafted German sex mobile. Afterwards we drove back to our side of town and picked up my sister, which added on another 30 miles to my "Running On Empty" tally. Then we finally proceeded to the gas station 4 miles away. Bringing my final count to 55 miles. I can drive my Jetta 55 miles on an empty tank.
