3.8 Gallons Left After Light Goes On

Recently I've been filling up as soon as possible after the light goes on. With a 17.1 gallon tank, I figure that there's about 3.8 gallons in the tank when that light starts to shine.
Even when the needle is at E, there's more than a gallon left.
