Tank on Empty

long run on corolla

as the light comes on ages before the gauge shows empty, I carried extra fuel and found that it goes more than 100 miles before running out.

Have your gauge checked as it is most surely busted.

Hi, Thats because the gauge is not showing empty but R = Reserve. At least that is what my 2002 corolla shows me :)

Seconded: '94 Corolla - light goes on at ~ten gallons down. Manual says 13.2 (13.1?) gallons capacity = Theoretical 100 miles right there at my average 35 mpg. Haven't had the time, though, to test the theory since the kids were born.

My '96 does this as well, the light comes on early. I thought that it was a problem with the gauge but I've had it looked at and they said that the light turns on when you have about 3 gallons left therefore the gauge still shows you having some fuel. So, 3 gallons is about 80 miles for me (mostly in town miles in a mountain city), or more if you drive very conservatively. :)
