Tank on Empty

Skis all gone...

A few year back some friends and I were skiing in upstate New York. After skiing for the day, we put our skis on the roof rack of the Integra, since it wasn't really big enough for the three of us inside without it. We were driving along near the speed limit (which was remarkable) when we heard a snap.

I was sitting in the back seat, so I turned around and watched as our skis, still attached to the rack, bounced down the interstate. We were still somewhat dazed as we all looked back and watched a tractor-trailer hit our skis and roof rack, breaking all of them into man pieces.

After picking up the broken pieces of our skis and the rack, we headed home. We reported this to our parents - it turns out the people who sold the roof rack also sold the brackets meant for a different car...and didn't mention this. I'd probably be more upset with the story, but we ended up getting some insurance money and buying new skis.

Just a warning to everyone out there -- make sure anything attached to your car is fastened securely and correctly!

Naaaaah, I liked this story. It was a gas, and besides, there's no website for rickety roofracks.

I'm curious what kind of mileage he got with the skis on the car...
