Doesn't anyone read the owner's manual? It clearly states that when the fuel light comes on that you have 1.9 gallons remaining. Based on my experience, it's right on the mark too.

Also notice that the Jetta doesn't have an "E" on the fuel gauge, it has a "0" (zero), and that "0" means just what it says, zero gallons remaining. Whatever you do, don't drive until the needle reaches the zero.
