Tank on Empty

1998 Buick LeSabre best 6-man car on gas, period.

I've had a 1998 Buick LeSabre for 8 years now, second owner. It is fantastic on fuel; if you drive it like grandma you really will pull 30 MPG out of it on the highway, but that is unrealistic. Real world combined driving nets about 22-26 depending. The fuel light, though, is something else. It comes on with four gallons remaining; just under 1/4 tank. This is pretty nice as it gives you lots of time to fill up. Only nuisance is that it "almost" becomes a "cry wolf" situation but not quite. I do wish they had changed it so that the light turns red from orange when there is very little left; GM fuel gauges are notoriously innacurate an this is no exception; I've had the heart-stopping moment of putting 17.7 gallons into it. Also for those of you like me who "pack" the tank, you can usuall put in exactly 1 gallon of fuel after the pump stops for the first time. Any more an it will spill.
