Amount Left In Tank

December 19, 2007 about Ford F-150

Many times after the Low Fuel light has gone on I have had the opportunity to fill tank within 5 miles afterwards and found out that I can refill tank with 21.5 gallons. This is consistent with the average of 36 miles of driving after the light goes out for city driving, that is, (3.5 gallons) x (11 or 12 mpg). On the highway with cruise control at 60-70 MPH, on many occasions I have driven over 50 miles to gas station without running out.

Knowing how many gallons are left in tank is just as an important piece of information as average miles driven after light goes on; with this information and the type of driving being done by the driver, this will allow him or her to know when to really start panicking.

My 2005 F150 4x4 averages 17 mpg. the low fuel warning comes on with 50 miles til empty. I have driven it up to 20 miles after the on board computer reads 0 miles til empty. Generally most cars/trucks have 3 gallons of fuel left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on.

Ok, my husband is in the miailtry and was in Georgia at the time a few weeks after our son was born, which was in Texas. I'm not quit sure of that distance but from Texas to Gerogia, I drove my barely 6 week baby to go see him for the weekend. It was really tough seeing as he ate every 3-4 hours. I had to stop every now and then to feed, change and whatever necessities my son and I had. It did make the trip longer but it was nice. My advice really is to just stop every now and then because babies do get tired of sitting in that car seat all the time. It's easier for you because one of you can feed while the other drives and hold off a little longer on the changing. Hope it helps!
