Flashing Low Fuel Light

My wife and I took our new 2002 prius from Allentown PA to Yellowstone National Park, in Wyoming. In Wisconsin, low fuel light started flashing when there was one bar left. My navigation system map show nothing but hundreds of little lakes all around us. No stations were open it was 11 pm. I was getting worried I'd be stuck along the road until next morning.Finally found a station that was open. Went 53 miles after light started flashing, since then I've never let it get below a quarter tank. I average 48 MPG, Highest 55.
