Tank on EmptyTank on Empty

In Theory, But Never Risked Trying.

June 22, 2007 about Oldsmobile Intrigue

I've run a car down to bone dry empty, and it's no fun. Hence why I always keep my tank full enough to get me from A to B. But I have read my manual, and done some number crunching on my 1998 Olds Intrigue.

-The manual claims that the tank is rated at 17 gallons.

-Consistently, when the "low gas" warning light comes on, I'll fill up to about 12 gallons.

-Theoretically from the manual, to the "low gas" warning light, I have a spare 5 gallons to run on E.

At say 19 MPG (at a personally experienced worst with my car) that's still about 95 miles running on E. At a recorded best of 31 MPG that comes to 155 miles.
