my 2005 outlanders light comes on when I have about 210 miles on odom and it has 3 gallons left in tank at that stage. I get 20 mpg so thats about 270 on tank of gas if i drove it until it ran empty.

I recently drove from LA to Sacramento when my "low gas" light went on going through Castiac northbound on I-5. The needle was just above the empty line so I thought I would have enough to get over the pass. The needle kept going down past the "E" and I thought I would have to pull over. Fortunately, after 25 miles, there was a gas station at Gorman. I filled up the tank and much as I can just to see how much I had left the tank before filling. I filled the tank with 13.3 gallons and I know my tank is 15.7 gallons. This leads me to believe that the gas light turns on when I've used about 80% of the tank, which seems pretty low for a gas light indicator to activate. Could I have actually driven another 20 or so miles before needing to fill up?

on empty outlander sport gt there is still 40 miles left.
