Ran Out Of Gas Within Sight Of Gas Station

June 3, 2008 about Dodge Ram

I have a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup and ran out of gas just as I was approaching the exit off the highway, but could see the nearest gas station down the exit ramp. I had a bottle of fuel injector cleaner, I put that in and was able to get started and coast down the exit ramp and got to the gas station.

DEAL OR NO DEAL???!?!?!?!?..as good as it sounds, it aactully costs more to buy a dodge or chrysler compared to a scion, toyota, etc. Well, what about the cost of gas, won't that make up for it? hardly . Here is how I see the deal (aka rip-off) in a nutshell;,You get a CREDIT CARD (what is the APR you ask?) that gives you gas at 2.99 a gallon for the FIRST 12,000 miles each year for 3 years. A perk for CHRYSLER AND DODGE is they can get additional income with finance charges, late fees, etc. if you carry a balance from purchases And what if you go over your 12,000 mile limit? REGULAR PRICE. Plus this offer is for only 3 years Ok, let's compare the caliber (no- wait, it gets 27 mpg, lets go with the dodge avenger since it gets 11% better mpg at 30 hwy)..Ok, buying a car is has it's constants. They need gas and oil changes, sometimes tires, etc. BUT WHAT ABOUT RESALE VALUE? What kind of hit are you going to take on a dodge 3 years down the road? What cars have the best resale values? Let's look at a TOYOTA COROLLA OR SCION XD Both have good resale values and will cost you $15,000 or 16,000 with plenty of options brand new. You will also get 30+ MPG in both. If you compare it to a dodge caliber 27mpg or avenger at 30 mpg but both are still more expensive than the scion or toyota when you include power options, etc. and lets just say you end up driving either one for 12,000 miles on hwy. (the spread is worst for the dodge via city, so i gave a benefit for the doubt with highway driving) so in one year you would spend .$-dodge avenger at 30 mpg x 2.99/gal = 1,196 in fuel each year for 3 yrs.$-toyota corolla at 35 mpg x 4.00/gal = 1,371 in fuel each year$-scion xd at 33 mpg x 4.00/gal = 1,455 in fuel each year..ok, so let's just say gas goes up to $5 a gallon in a year you are looking at $518 more for the corolla at the $5 a gallon instead of $2.99 a gallon with the dodge but the overall cost is still MORE for the dodge!!! OUT OF POCKET YOU ARE LOOKING AT $5,400 MORE FOR THE DODGE AFTER 3 years with discounted gas. If prices go back down, you won't get much out of the deal anyway so within the 1st year you would spend OVERALL $6,825 more on the dodge avenger at $2.99 a gallon compared to the toyota at $4 a gallon .//THE ONLY WAY THIS WOULD PAN OUT IS IF GAS WHERE TO HIT OVER $10 A GALLON, and at that point you would BREAK EVEN BETWEEN A DODGE AVENGER AND THE TOYOTA COROLLA!!!!!! At which point most everyone would be selling their cars, and as you might know PLUG IN Hybrids and ELECTRIC CARS should be released in the next 3 years making 2.99 a gallon at 30 mpg (or in other words 10 cents a mile) really expensive compared to electricity at 8 cents a kilowatt working out to roughly 2 to 4 cents per mile ..So I would suggest buying a dodge or chrysler ONLY if you really want that car. DO NOT BUY IT BASED ON 2.99 gas . if you are rolling in style but only getting 22 MPG highway in a dodge charger, you will be paying a LOT more for gas, AND whole lot more for the car!!! Do the math, and compare the overall cost of the car to other cars. I think you will find that 2.99 a gallon for only certain models that are more expensive and LESS efficient then competitors is a NO DEAL why gamble on future gas prices, why not spend your money on a car that will make a socially and environmentally positive impact . seems like a MORE EFFICIENT car is not only financially smart, but also the HEALTHY and greener choice ,,,regardless of the PRICE, we need to cut off our ADDICTION to oil. Oil is like a dirty habit, lets compare it to smoking It makes a bunch of crooks rich (both industry AND politicians) and it ruins people's health. POLLUTION is so bad around I-5 that many people around there have developed lung problems . LET'S START USING ELECTRIC CARS, we have the capabilities for WIND AND SOLAR power which is CLEAN AND CHEAP! Not only that, but we would be pumping our cash into our LOCAL economies, rather than a dirty terrorist harboring country. When persian muslims chant DEATH TO AMERICA after prayer EVERY DAY, and IRAN suppliers terrorists with bombs and other munitions, it makes me not want to send my cash over to their neck of the woods . Not to mention all the GENOCIDE and other crimes going in SUDAN, NIGERIA, etc . WHY SHOULD WE BE SENDING OUR MONEY TO THOSE REGIONS, when we have a economy that is faltering right now?? THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?!?!?! Let's support our local economies and stop wasting money on foreign oil. WE NEED TO INVEST IN SOLAR, WIND, NATURAL GAS, etc. and use these energies to power our cars!!!.With plug in hybrids like the PRIUS, CHEVY VOLT, etc. we could do 95% of our driving with ELECTRICITY (NO GAS) and spend 70% less getting around town. Please write, call, and visit car dealers and manufacturers and DEMAND ELECTRIC CARS and PLUG IN HYBRIDS! Write or call your senator, governor, representatives, etc. ZERO EMISSIONS, LOCAL FINANCIAL STIMULUS, MORE EFFICIENT AND AFFORDABLE, what is NOT to like!?!?!

I have had two trucks with 6 cyl. engenis. They both got lousy mileage, esp. if you do any towing or have a low geared towing rear end. Try getting the smaller or med.V8. I think Chevy gets better mileage than the others, including the Toyota. My 2004 1/2 ton gets about 18 hwy, a bit less in town. I've also herd from some Dodge owners that the interior falls apart pretty quickly. I live in Texas, so trucks are as common as cars.
