Engine Warning Light

This has been on most of the past 14 years when I'm driving. Once the engine is really hot I can switch off and on couple of times and it goes out. It's been looked at every year when I have my annual maintenance with no solution. It doesn't seem to have any effect on my engine. It first started on a freezing cold day and the manual comments note the temperature when it lights up. I ignored it now.
