Evey Scores
Earlier today, I came across a link to this very site and almost ironically when I got to my car, my gas light came on... which made me think about the night coming home from a Detroit Shock Finals game at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The tank was low, but I wasn't about to try and find a gas station by the Palace, so I figured we would stop on the way back, but you know, once you are cruising on the highway at a good clip of about 90 mph, you don't want to mess up the "good time" you are making--even when you know that the gas light is going to come on at anytime... and it did. I checked the trip mileage for the tank, and it was high, but we decided to see if we could make it to at least our exit at 60 miles away. When the trip reached 398 miles, the adrenline rush hit--I knew we were very, very close and we have just over 2 miles to go. I patted the dash and coaxed Evey (that's my car's name) to just make it a little further. We had been cheering the Shock to a game 2 win all night and naturally we were now cheering Evey to a 401 mile trip on a tank. Yeah, it was close, but we made it... with 0.2 of a gallon left in the tank to spare.
Ahhh, it was a magical night, never since repeated... and not for the Shock either. They won the championship that year, but the next time was a bust.
