I have owned my own and driven my dad's S-10 and I can tell you this. On both of them "E" means "Walk". I've only had to walk once for each vehicle before I figured this out.

apparently the s10 models and blazers and jimmys are famous for giving you about 30 second warning before you run out of gas. light comes on then almost instantly you are done.
