Out Of Gas Warning - Rectangle Starts Blinking!
I have had the rectangle blinking for 20 to 30 miles. I don't want to actually find out. Very interesting about the stress level it can cause.
Also the gas gauge seems to go down faster at the end! It doesn't beep like some cars. Coasting seems helpful. closed gas stations make me real nervous and wishing, hoping & praying are often done. Good article. I love my Yaris! TW

real slow to get to half a tank...but when you get to "half a tank" on the bar it suddenly goes much faster
Talk about stress....OUFFF When it starts blinking you can't help looking at it!
my yaris has 2 speed blinking the first is a slow blink to warn you that the tank is low on gas and the second is much faster which stresses you a bit more
who lets there gas light even get to blinking like come on its not good to go under a 1/4 tank
When the gauge first starts blinking you have about 8-9 litres left in the tank( aprox 2 gal) Fast blinking is about half that. I have gone as far as 120 kms from when the gauge started blinking.(aprox 74 miles) My 08 Yaris routinely delivers 40 mpg.
Hi do you know why the gas meter blinking even if it is full tank and not recognized the gas..in the whole travel it is.. please help.whats the problem thanks
For the first time in almost 12 years since I've bought the 2007 Toyota Yaris Hatchback 2-Door (Automatic), I finally drove my car until it was officially out of gas and wouldn't move anymore. Very scary and dangerous since I was on the freeway in busy traffic, but I managed to surprising reach an exit and get on the on-ramp half-way and pulling to the far right side of the on-ramp before my car was officially out of gas. I was 0.4 miles or less to a gas station. It wasn't intentional to drive it till the very end, but it happened anyway. I'm kinda glad it happened for the first time. It was an interesting experience. The bars do blink on an 1/8 of a tank left, but I can never tell how many miles I have left. I typically go 35-38 mpg for freeway/highway mileage. However with a 12 year-old car, gas mileage has dropped significantly. I used to get 50-55 miles per 1/8 bar. In any case, I'm averaging 45 miles per 1/8 bar. It's not that bad, but less than what it used to be. My car officially died at 399.7 miles for a full tank of gas. I seriously think I could have made it to 400 miles though. Luckily for me, at 400.1 miles, I reached the gas station. Had to get about 1/2 a gallon filled by AAA roadside service just to finish getting there, but I would have made it. 385 miles or so was the most I ever went without a serious problem like my car slowing down to a stop. However, I seem to find that going between 65-79 mph gives me better gas mileage. If I'm going under 65 for a long time, instead of getting 45-78 miles for 1/8 bars, I drop 1/8 of a tank after 28-37 miles. That true for anybody else, or is my car just weird?
