Passlock By : John Doe
My 99 Pontiac Grandam is in good shape, with the exception of the passlock system. For those of you who think that there is not a solution, there is. If you are one of the people who have been 'late' to work, 'late' for class, or 'late' for anything, you can fix the problem without having to pay hundreds of dollars to the dealer to get your vehicle fixed. I do not know about other part stores, but I purchased a "BYPASS MODULE" from 'AUTOZONE' and brought it to a mechanic and he installed it and the car has no problems starting up or stalling. When the security light goes on, it takes about 15 minutes for the light to go off, but sooner or later if the problem is not resolved, then your car will 'not' start again. Hope this helps!

Engish would be nice. Or else buy a mexican car. The revolution is about to start.
My 2002 Grand Am gave me some troubles a while back. My car wouldn't start one evening(not even with a boost) and my garage was closed. I paid a tow truck to take my car to the garage. The next day when i told the mechanic about the problem, he told me my car started without any problems. It wasn't until later we found out about the Anti Theft on the car. If your car doesn't start and you've got the SECURITY light flashing in the dash... turn the key to the "ON" position and leave the Driver's door open for 10 minutes. The light will either stop flashing or disappear compltetley. Then turn your key to off and try starting the car.
You do not have to leave the door open when you are doing the reset for your security light. My 2001 Grand AM does this to me at least once a month! SO annoying! But I have learned to live with it... have been for about 2 years now. I was told that this happens when the security scensor in either (or both) your dash or your key starts to go bad.. and that it is part of "anti theft" plan for the car...
Passlock on my Grand Am has driven me nuts for years. Since 2007 when I got my 99 GT, it's acted up like a spoiled child. Sometimes, no problems at all. We can go for months, close to a year, without a problem. Then other times, it will do it multiple times a week. It prevented me from driving home from the gas station one night. Really pissed me off, as you can imagine. It's finally suffered the last problem it's going to have with me. The intake gasket was replaced due to antifreeze leaking into the engine, which is apparently a big problem with them as well but I somehow never had until a couple months ago (though I have gone through multiple driver side door window lifts like so many other people....about one a year), but it's still doing it and we suspect the head gasket has an issue as well. So, screw that. I'm getting a new car in a couple months. Sucks though because I loved this car. The most annoying problem was always the passlock issue though, as it has made me late for a variety of things throughout the years as it prevented me from stealing my own car. But, sentimental value doesn't get me to work on time.
