The gas light should come on at about 1/8 tank; your car is fine. There's about 2 gallons left in the tank when the light comes on - it's a "low" fuel light, not a "no" fuel light. If the tank is about 15-16 gallons full, 1/8th would be about 2 gallons left ;)

And you can easily squeeze another 20-40 miles out of it after the light comes on if you don't drive aggressively...
