Using Every Trick In The Book
I left Anchorage and was driving home to Wasilla, which is exactly 45 miles from work. I forgot about getting gas and realized the low light was on. I didn't have my gas credit card or money for gas, nor did I have other credit cards. I had to get home, get my card and then drive another 3 miles to a gas station. My owners manual says I'd have "about 50 miles" once the light went on. I drove around 55 mph and I coasted down big hills, trying to glide up the hills. My eyes were glued to the "Miles to Empty" read out...And I prayed. I got home, left the car running, ran in and grabbed the card and slowly, slowly inched my way to the gas station. 14.64 gallons it took in my 15 gallon tank. Whew!!! Never did that again...but I have regularly driven another 20 miles after the light comes on just to get to a cheaper station...which is probably equally stupid.
