2006+ Civic Fuel Gauge
My 2006 Civic EX's gas gauge, which is made up of little "ticks" that represent about .6 gallons each, goes all the way to zero ticks. I've never run it dry, but have done 80+ miles past the warning light. I usually fill up once my fuel gauge disappears.

u shouldn't fill up ur car when the light shows up. u can damage ur fuel pump and fuel system.
As long as the fuel pump is completely submerged it is just fine. It should be in a small container which prevents fuel pump starvation on turns and acceleration. Now running out of fuel is a different story. For you fuel pump thats like your engine running out of oil. Fuel is the pump's lubricant so as long as it is provided it makes no difference. You should revise your post john because I don't think that is what you meant.
is your EX a manual or automatic? i have a 2006 EX, automatic, and i wonder how much your estimate of the 'ticks' is affected by the type of transmission? by the way, i usually don't fill up until i have no more 'ticks' left, and i end up driving anywhere between 20-60 miles after my gas light comes on... i don't think i've ever gone 80! it's nice to know that i probably won't get stranded if i can't get gas for that long.
I have an 07 Honda Civic SI, My light comes one with 3 ticks left on the gas monitor, ive gotten down to one tick but got worried and went to fill up . . . i cant find any straight definitive answers on how long it goes once the light comes on till the ticks go away but i got mine to about 45 with 1 tick left
i work at a car dealer and driven an 06 civic with 0 ticks left on the fuel it still was driven
This is so good to know! Everyone keep posting, 'cause I only have one tick! hahahaha
im 16 and have a 2009 lx and no money for gas so 90% of the time im driving with the tank on 0 ticks ....no problems so far
2008 civic lx, I drive with 0 zero ticks every and after 25-50 miles still I only fill up 11 gallons, tank size is 13.2 so I could easily drive 100 miles with zero ticks
2006 EX as soon as the last "bar" disappeared I drove 100km and when I fueled up I put in 49.5L so I still had .5L left
I was running out of gas this morning but didn't have time to stop or else I'd be late for work. I did at least 25km without any tick and the light on. Not bad!
I have a 2008 civic sedan automatic drove 415 miles last light just went out. Under 60mph. Got 40 mpg.
I have a Honda civic 2007. The digital fuel gauge some time go backward. This means sometimes it work normal with the letter E, F and the pump symbol illuminated and the light show the amount of fuel from bottom to top. Sometimes it works backward. The light on the letters E, F, pump is off, and the light show the empty part of the tank from top to bottom. What could be the reason? How can I fix it?
I have a Honda civic 2007 EX and have had 0 ticks plenty of times do to lack of funds lol. I've easily gone 40 mile with 0 tacks and have done 60 mile but still havent ran completely out of gas.
I have a 2007 Civic EX, and my gas light came on about 1 mile from my house, so I just continued on my way home. I didn't drive it for 2 days, and went to start it to run errands (first of which was to get gas), and it won't start at all. It's been just above freezing and my car was parked on a slight slope, nose first.
Replacing a Honda fuel pump is expensive (hundreds). I try never run them low anymore (rarely get to the low fuel light). If you look in the owners manual for your tank size, then subtract how much you filled up you can get an idea how much is left when the light goes on, or when N bars is showing. Most of my Hondas have been 2-3 gallons left when the light goes on. Note that the gas gauge may start to read differently over time, as the sending unit gets old.
I had 0 "ticks" left so I went to till up and I still had three gallons left -.-
We had 3 bars left and Drove our o7 Honda Civic LX from Downey CA, to Moreno valley CA, ????????????
07 civic sadan Tank capacity = 50L Reserve = 8L So if filling tank at O dot will take 42L
Hi , i got an 2007/8 Honda exi.....the problem i have is ,if i put in petrol the fuel gauge do not respond......then while driving for a few minutes then the stripes start to appear....please advise

Daniel - August 14th, I have the same problem as you! I have a Honda Civic EX 2007 and the fuel gauge often reads backwards. Makes me nervous because you can never really know how much gas is in the tank unless you rely on the backwards reading! This has only just started happening this year. What does this mean?
I have a 2008 Honda civic coupe with one tick left on the fuel gage and I'm not going to fill it up until my friend gives me gas money for taking him to his girlfriends house. (I'm 18 by the way) I'm assuming that I have enough gas to drive on for about 30 miles if I go 65 on the freeway and not jump on the gas too much?
As a teen driver, you need to get at least 3 Car Insurance qutoes. JD Powers ranks the top-10 car insurance companies and one of the criteria is price. So check the top-10 list and start making calls or going online for qutoes. I've posted the Car Insurance Ratings below.
I always filled my tank at 0 thick, then now im suffering on my fuel pump is malfunction, after i run the car at 10 miles the car getting weak on acceleration, now i need to change my fuel pump
So i stronggly advice, not to wait to lose ur thick before u fill ur tank leave atleast 4 thick, then filled. :)
0 ticks left and still rode about 15 miles like that. I made it to my destination. 07 civic
2012 Civic.I went to the gas station 15 miles after my light went on. The screen said i only had 9 miles left. I filled it up...only 9.95 gallons until it clicked, but civics have a 13.2 gallon tank. At 30mpg, I theoretically could have gone another 100 miles. Good to know but I don't EVER plan on testing this theory out! I try to make a habit of filling it at 1/4 tank.
Just drove 47 miles with the empty light on driving an 02 Civic So hatch.
I have a 2008 5 speed EXL. If you drive a lot of miles and with the price of gas, who wants to waste time filling up. I never get gas until 50 miles past all the ticks are out. And there is usually 2 gallons left. Do the math! Use the trip. If you've gone 450 miles, the ticks are out and it takes 11 gallons to fill (no topping off), theoretically you can go another 90 miles (2.2 x 40.91 mpg) I got this car to eat up miles; 106,000 miles on the first set of tires (kumho solus), 113,000 on original brakes & just replaced first battery at 145,000.
When the light initially comes on its just telling you that the fuel level is low not that you're on the verge of running out of gas.
07 civic. Need help, digital fuel gauge showed zero 1.8 miles ago and got to pick the wife up from work 8 miles away. Will I make it as left my wallet at home????
I have civic 2007 while on highway I noticed that my fuel gauge was slowly dropping and a time came when the light came up I searched for any fuel leaks but nothing.I went to the petrol pump and filled up my tank but the gauge is still showing up the light .Please advise.
I have a 2012 Honda Civic. All the gas stations near my house are closed! I live 3 miles from a gas station and it was closed so I made it back home and it said I can go 0 miles. I plan to take it back to the gas station in the morning- will I have enough to make it 3 miles? The bars/ticks disappeared and I drove on 0 miles for like 1 minute.
Running close to empty runs the risk of getting contaminents, water, dirt, etc., sucked into the fuel filter & fuel pump. Sloshing fuel with tank low stirs up the junk that sttles to the bottom.

Have been on zero bars for about 10 miles 2015 lax 5 sod. I need to get my kid from school round trip about 20mi. Hope I make it...I had a 2011 I drove for about 40 miles with zero bars until a found a gas station once I'm hope this one just as reliable I'm broke til tomorrow lol
I have 2 ticks and my light is on. I'm just curious as to how many miles I can safely and comfortably drive before I absolutely NEED to fill up. Reasons being; 1. I live out in the middle of no where, so it takes about 10-20 minutes to get to a gas station depending on which town I go to. 2. I am working a low paying job and paying job and get paid bi weekly (on top of that paying off my credit card debt) So a somewhat round a bout firm answer would be much appreciated!!
Tank size of Civic is 50L, now check when the last light finish. Go to fuel station and fuel it to full. let say it is fueled up 40L, then reserve is 9 Liter. This is my observation. In 9L you may guess how much your car can go.

I have a 99Cadillac deville. My gas was reading 11. I went to put $20 and it only took $17. When I went to check it read F. It wouldn't take anymore. I know it was not full. Any one have any ideas?
What does the number of ticks got to do with a digital gas gauge reading backwards? I feel ur frustration.. wish someone would just answer the question.. this is obviously not the right place to get answers..
I've 2006 Civic EX. I noticed the ticks dropped quicker anywhere from 4 ticks. Normally, 1.5 ticks gets me home from work, but starting with only 4 ticks the ticks drop to 1 about half way home. I chicken out and change course to get gas before resuming my journey. Ticks #3 and #2 drop within 6 miles, so I figure I'll hit rock-bottom in few miles. Has anyone experienced the ticks dropping faster when left with few ticks?
How in the world do you read the fuel gauge on the 2006 Honda Civic? Nowhere in the manual is this elementary information given! There are two curved indicators on the fuel gauge which light up according to how much fuel is in the tank, but no indication of what they indicate. Eg, suppose 75% of the right part of the bottom indicator is lit up. Does that mean the fuel tank is 75% FULL or does it mean that the fuel tank is 75% EMPTY???
When the indicator comes on, there is about 1.9 US gal (7.5 ) of fuel remaining in the tank before the reading reaches E. There is a small reserve of fuel remaining in the tank when the reading does reach E. Not my words this is straight from the manual hope this helps
