Purposefully Ran To Empty The Tank

June 23, 2010 about Honda Civic

my honda civic got 62 miles after orange light (2 dots left), 49miles of those were after 0 dots left. after running ~40 miles worry free over last few days, i finally decided to finish it off by taking over the anti-clockwise 405-520 loop(attached) back and forth. after 2 loops the car stopped responding to accelerator at the start of ramp (270degree 3/4 circle near pin-2 marked in picture) , then in the middle of ramp engine went off and steering were unpowered . few moments of jitter due to hardened steering :D. but was able to put car in neutral gear and used some extra muscles to steer to end of ramp and park on the shoulder straight (pointed by pin-2 in picture). re-fuelled using spare fuel (around ~0.7 gallons as i couldnt empty the container) and immediately headed to gas station where it just filled 11.93gallons. manual said 13.2 is tank size , 13.2 - 11.93 - 0.7 = 0.6 gallons is the extra gap for expansion of fuel in heat. Why don't you take up knitting or get some kind of hobbie?.

I don't get-it.

Not getting it and/or knitting won't tell you how many miles you have left when the light comes on. Knitting is nice to make warm, snuggly clothes (in case you're cold, or enjoy snuggly stuff) and not getting it is great in case you're a Prime Minister and/or US President and want to start a war costing over a Trillion dollars to look for imaginary weapons of mass-destruction; neither keeps you from having to walk ten miles when you think you have 70 miles left in the tank.

Leave it to a left-wing looney like "I get it" to turn this discussion into a political hate-fest. "I get it" can likely get a few extra miles (or kilometers) out of his auto by linking his hot-air mouth to his fuel line.

Thank You sir for the knowledge. My daughter just called, no money, is miles away-and you just saved a mom from a major situation. I can now trust she will have a better chance of making it home, on that empty-then just using a statistic.

Lets re-arrange your question so that even you fully uensrdtand what you are asking . What would be a good deal for a sixteen year old car -almost two decades with mileage unknown -I think it may have over 100,000 miles , maybe 125,000 , maybe 150,000 , maybe 200,000 , I'm not sure . Well , if its 16 years old and they only drove an average of 15,000 miles a year x 16 years then it just may have 240,000 miles . So, based on FACT , I think you should pay about $ 500 because if the transmission goes that's $ 2000 for a rebuilt one , if the motor seizes thats $ 3000 for a rebuilt one , if the compressor locks up that's $ 500 , if the front axles CV joints leak , that's another $ 400 . Then there are tires, brakes, hoses , electrical and when you are done spending $ 5000 its still a $ 500 car . These are called throw away cars . You buy them for $500 , and drive fromn A to B , if they begin to cost big bucks you dump them .You do not keep throwing money into a bottomless well . Capiche ?

I have the same car. It cranks but won't start. I check the fuel, and it is still senindg fuel, also I check all? the spark plugs and they all spark, so I was wondering if it is the timing belt. Let me know what you think it could be. Thanks.
